Abstract

The study was conducted find cervical Papanicolaou smear results and epidemiologic factors of uerine cervical cancer in the medical underserved area The data were collected from August 1996 to February 1998 from the medical underserved females in Geoje island. The number of females on whom the gynecological Papanicolaou smear and questionnaire was done was 318.

The results were as follows : The age distribution of subjects was 61.70yrs(24.2%);5160yrs(23.0%);41---50yrs(21.1%) and their educational level was no schooling(44.3%) and primary school(32.4%).

The first sexual contact age of subjects was 19-21yrs(35.8%);22-24yrs(30.8%) and their first pregnancy age was 22--24yrs(43.4%);19-2lyrs(26.4%);and the frequency of pregnancy of subjects was 5-6times(34.3%) and over 7 times(30.8%).

The cytologic Pap. smear results of subjects were negative(62.3%);inflammation(35.2%);atypical cells(1.6%) and carcinoma in situ(0.6%).

147(46.2%) of total subjects had gynecological symptoms;and their symptoms were leukorrhea(65.3%);pruritus(17.0%) and pain(14.7%).

127(39.9%) of total subjects had Pap. smear experience and the frequency of Pap. smear was 71.7%(only 1 time);10.2%(every year);10.2%(every 3 years) and 4.7%(irregularly).
